These carbines were manufactured by Erma Werke in Dachau, West Germany, and imported into the United States under the Iver Johnson name during the 1980s. The platform is patterned after the legendary U.S. M1 Carbine and was designed as a lightweight rimfire training and recreational rifle. The rifles became popular due to their military styling, compact handling, and inexpensive .22 LR operation.
