Winchester Model 61 .22 LR Pump Rifle – Engraved with Gold German Shepherd Inlay
Winchester Model 61 .22 LR Pump Rifle – Engraved with Gold German Shepherd Inlay
24" Barrel – Excellent Condition – Serial No. 126728
Overview
Offered here is a Winchester Model 61 pump-action rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle, serial number 126728, presented in excellent condition with a beautifully engraved receiver featuring a gold inlaid German Shepherd motif.
Introduced in 1932 as the successor to the Winchester Model 1890 and Model 1906, the Model 61 quickly became one of the finest and smoothest pump-action rimfire rifles ever produced by Winchester. Designed with a streamlined receiver, improved internal mechanism, and takedown construction, the Model 61 represented Winchester’s premium rimfire sporting rifle during the pre-war and post-war eras. Production continued until 1963, with total production estimated at approximately 342,000 rifles.
Serial number 126728 places this rifle in approximately the late 1940s production era, a highly desirable period among collectors due to the quality of machining and finish typical of Winchester firearms from that time.
This example features a desirable 24" barrel, blued finish, classic walnut furniture, and tasteful custom scroll engraving accented by a striking gold German Shepherd portrait inlay, giving the rifle exceptional visual appeal beyond standard production examples.

Collector Information
The Winchester Model 61 is widely regarded as one of the finest rimfire pump rifles Winchester ever produced. Compared to earlier exposed-hammer pump guns, the Model 61 introduced a streamlined hammerless design with a sleeker receiver profile and significantly smoother operation.
Collectors especially value:
• Pre-1964 Winchester production
• High-condition original finish examples
• 24" barrel rifles
• Special-order or engraved examples
• Rifles with strong original bluing and walnut finish
• Tasteful custom embellishment and sporting engraving
The custom engraving and gold German Shepherd inlay on this example provide a distinctive and attractive appearance while preserving the classic lines of the rifle. The engraving appears to be quality aftermarket custom work rather than standard factory Winchester engraving, adding individuality and collector appeal.
