1928 Lettered LAPD Colt New Service Revolver .45 Auto
1928 Colt New Service Revolver .45 Auto – City of Los Angeles / LAPD Provenance
5½" Barrel | Blue Finish | Factory-Lettered City of Los Angeles Shipment | LAPD Detective Lt. Harry Hager | Colt Archive Letter | Serial No. 324732
OVERVIEW
Offered here is a historically significant Colt New Service Revolver, serial number 324732, chambered in .45 Auto Cartridge and accompanied by a Colt Archive Properties factory letter documenting its original configuration and 1928 shipment history.
According to Colt's original shipping records, this revolver left the factory with a 5½-inch barrel, blue finish, and checkered wood stocks. It was sold to the City of Los Angeles, in care of Lt. Harry Hager, and shipped through the Wm. H. Hoegee Company of Los Angeles, California, on March 21, 1928. The letter further records that it was one of 25 guns of the same type included under Colt Factory Order #14367125.
Lt. Harry Hager served as a Detective Lieutenant with the Los Angeles Police Department during this period, giving the documented City of Los Angeles shipment an especially interesting law-enforcement connection. The factory letter does not establish that this particular revolver was personally issued to Hager, so it is represented conservatively as a City of Los Angeles shipment associated through the factory record with LAPD Detective Lt. Harry Hager.
The New Service was Colt's large-frame double-action revolver and was widely respected in military, law-enforcement, and sporting circles during the first half of the 20th century. Commercial New Service revolvers chambered for the .45 Auto Cartridge are an especially interesting branch of the model's history.
This revolver is currently fitted with black checkered grips, rather than the checkered wood stocks recorded on the Colt Archive letter. No representation is made that the currently installed grips are original to the revolver.

CONDITION
This revolver remains in very good overall collector condition for its age, displaying honest wear consistent with a nearly century-old service-era firearm.
The blue finish remains attractive overall with expected wear, thinning, and handling marks in areas of contact. The currently installed black checkered grips present well and complement the revolver's period appearance.
Please note that the Colt Archive letter records the revolver as originally shipped with checkered wood stocks; the black grips currently installed are not represented as the factory-lettered original stocks.
The included Colt Archive Properties letter remains an important part of the package and provides excellent documentation of the revolver's original configuration and unusual Los Angeles shipment history.
Please review all photographs carefully, as they are part of the description.
