1939 Winchester Model 64 .32 W.S. — 24″ Sporting Rifle
Winchester Model 64 .32 W.S. — 24″ Sporting Rifle
This is a recently acquired and quite handsome Winchester Model 64 in .32 Winchester Special (W.S.), offering classic lines, pistol-grip stock design, and the semi-rapid taper 24" barrel with a half-length magazine tube. This example shows normal use and handling wear, with some heavier finish loss in areas of handling but remains fundamentally sound. The original hooded front sight is intact, adding to its desirability.
During its production life, the Model 64 rifles were serialized within the same range as Model 94 rifles (i.e., there is no separate “64” serial series).
Production of the Model 64 spanned from the early 1930s until late 1950s.
Date of Manufacture (Approx.):
Using published Winchester/collector serial tables for the Model 64 and cross-referencing where Model 64 production is interleaved with Model 94 serials:
- The published tables for Model 64 show that serials in the range 1,169,371 – 1,197,211 correspond to the year 1939 in the Model 64 listing.
- This serial 1,172,470 falls within that 1939 block for Model 64, making 1939 the most likely year of manufacture for this rifle.
- (Note: later tables show that Model 64 serials were embedded across decades, so for exact proof one could request a Winchester / Cody Firearms Museum factory letter.) Winchester Collector +2 Winchester Collector +2
Thus, this is a pre-1950s Model 64, likely 1939 vintage.

Context & Model Notes:
- The Model 64 was introduced in 1933 and was offered in calibers such as .30-30 and .32 W.S., and production continued intermittently until the late 1950s.
- All Model 64s are serialized within the same numeric sequence as Model 94 rifles (i.e. no separate 64 numbering block).
- The standard barrel length for the Model 64 is 24″, often with semi-rapid taper style, and the half-length magazine tube (sometimes called 2/3 tube) is a common feature.
- The hooded front sight on a ramp is typical for post-1930s Model 64 rifles and is a desirable original detail.
