OVERVIEW

Offered here is a Third-Generation Colt New Frontier Single Action Army chambered in .45 Colt, serial number 16201NF, featuring the classic 7½" barrel configuration.

The New Frontier is Colt’s adjustable-sight evolution of the traditional Single Action Army. Colt’s own literature identifies the New Frontier by its ramp-style front sight and fully adjustable rear sight, while retaining the traditional Single Action Army operating system.

This example has been tastefully upgraded by Nutmeg Sports, including gun tuning and the fitting of a handsome one-piece wood grip. The revolver also retains its original two-piece walnut grips with gold Colt medallions, making the package especially appealing to collectors who value both custom enhancements and retained factory components.

The factory box is correctly labeled Model P4870, .45 Colt, with a 7½" barrel. Period reference material identifies P4870 as the .45 Colt, 7½" New Frontier configuration with Royal Blue finish and wood stocks. In Colt reference terminology, “Royal Blue” on these New Frontiers denotes the high-polish blue finish used with a color case-hardened frame.

Third Generation New Frontier production kicked off in 1978 and remained relatively limited compared with standard Single Action Army production. Collector research attributes approximately 7,407 Third Generation .45 Colt New Frontiers with 7½" barrels, making this the most common .45 New Frontier barrel length, but still a relatively finite and highly collectible Colt variation.

This revolver presents in excellent overall condition and is accompanied by the original factory box, original grips, Colt instruction manual, Colt authorized service literature, and additional period paperwork.

CONDITION

Excellent overall condition.

The revolver presents very well, with attractive blue and case colors and very minimal evidence of prior handling. The trigger guard has a nice plum patina, and the installed one-piece wood grip is especially attractive, while the original walnut grips with gold Colt medallions have been retained and are included.

The original factory box shows normal storage wear consistent with vintage pieces. Original manuals and accompanying paperwork are also included.
