This is a recently acquired Colt Police Positive chambered in .38 Special with a 4"-barrel, fixed sights, and a blued finish. The Colt Police Positive Special is a small-frame, double-action revolver that was introduced in 1907. It featured a six-round fluted cylinder and was primarily chambered for the .38 Special cartridge and the 4 " variation weighed a scant 23 oz. The Positive Special incorporated Colt’s “Positive Lock” safety, which prevented the firing pin from hitting the primer unless the trigger was deliberately pulled. This safety feature addressed deficiencies of earlier models, allowing the revolver to be safely carried with all six chambers loaded. It wears checkered diamond grips with Colt Medallions and is in overall good condition with wear consistent with age and being carried. It has scattered areas of peppering and patina. The Police Positive Special was intended primarily for sale to law enforcement agencies. It holds the distinction of being Colt’s most widely produced revolver design, with over 750,000 units built. Law enforcement officers favored it due to its light weight. Production of the Police Positive Special ended in 1995. This particular revolver has a manufacture date of 1964.
