This is a recently acquired Lettered Smith & Wesson .38 M&P that is in good condition considering its age and purpose. It is marked to "Brighton Police Department" No 14., which appears to be a town outside of Buffalo, NY.

"The .38 Military & Police model was the proper name for this revolver prior to Smith & Wesson's assigning model numbers. When Smith & Wesson assigned model numbers to their revolvers in 1958, this .38 Military & Police became known as the Model 10."

"We have researched your Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police, Post World War II Long Action, caliber .38 S&W Special, revolver in company records which indicate that your handgun, with serial number S990137 was shipped from our factory on April 22, 1948, and delivered to H.S Peters Inc., Buffalo, NY. The records indicate that this revolver was shipped with a 5 inch barrel, blue finish, and checkered walnut square butt grips. The markings on the frame were added after this revolver was shipped from the factory. "
