This is a first model, Lettered Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector also known as the "Triple Lock". It features a 4" pinned barrel, blue finish, color cased hammer and trigger, fixed rear sight, and a front sight blade that's been replaced with a painted and ground down coin. It wears the original diamond checkered walnut grips with diamonds around the escutcheons and gold S&W medallions. This model was manufactured from 1908 to 1915 and sold out in 1917. Total production was 15,376 revolvers in 4 different calibers and 5 different barrel lengths. Smith & Wesson records indicate that this one was shipped from the factory on June 8, 1917, and delivered to Kraut & Dohnal Co., Chicago, IL. Overall, this is a great find in good condition for its manufacture date. It shows normal wear, scattered handling marks and minimal peppering. This revolver is a great reminder of the enduring legacy of Smith & Wesson’s commitment to quality and innovation in firearm design. It’s a piece that commands respect and admiration, not just for what it is, but for the story it tells and the era it represents.
