OVERVIEW

Offered here is a striking Mauser Parabellum Model 29/70, chambered in 9mm Luger and manufactured by Mauser-Werke A.G. in Oberndorf am Neckar, Germany. Serial number 11.00.2850 places this pistol among the early production examples of Mauser's postwar commercial revival of the legendary Parabellum design.

Introduced in the early 1970s, the Model 29/70 represented Mauser's return to Parabellum production decades after the classic Luger era. The design was based heavily upon the Swiss Model 06/29 configuration, accounting for the distinctive straight-profile grip, grip safety and other Swiss-pattern characteristics. Mauser production was nevertheless undertaken in Oberndorf, Germany, as confirmed on this pistol by the "MAUSER-WERKE A.G. Oberndorf a.N." marking on the front strap and "Made in Germany" marking at the rear of the frame.

This example is particularly attractive with its 6-inch barrel, American Eagle chamber crest, checkered wood grips and contrasting gold-finished controls. The top toggle is marked "Original Mauser," while the right side bears the Interarms, Alexandria, Virginia importer marking.

The 11.00 serial range is associated with the early 9mm production series. Published collector references identify 11.00.1000 as the beginning of Model 29/70 9mm production, making serial 11.00.2850 a relatively early 1970's example.

CONDITION

This pistol remains in excellent overall condition. The blued finish presents very well with very minor handling and age-related wear visible in the photographs. The checkered wood grips remain crisp and attractive, and the contrasting gold-finished controls show well.
