Nighthawk Custom / Browning Hi Power 9mm
Nighthawk Custom / Browning Hi Power 9mm
Nighthawk Custom Package | Browning/FN Belgian Hi Power | Cocobolo Grips | Heinie Sights | From the Personal Collection of Sheriff & Gunwriter Jim Wilson | Serial No. NHCB160276
OVERVIEW
Offered here is an exceptional Nighthawk Custom Browning Hi Power chambered in 9mm, serial number NHPB160276, accompanied by a signed provenance certificate identifying it as coming directly from the personal collection of Sheriff and noted gunwriter Jim Wilson.
This is substantially more than a standard Browning Hi Power. During the mid-2010s, Nighthawk Custom entered into an arrangement with Browning to obtain genuine Browning Hi Power pistols and transform them into highly refined custom fighting pistols. Nighthawk's own legacy archive identifies its Browning Hi Power program with the 2016–2017 period, making these original Browning-based Nighthawk pistols an especially interesting chapter in modern Hi Power history.
The underlying pistol is a genuine Belgian-made Browning Hi Power, with the slide marked "Made in Belgium / Assembled in Portugal." Nighthawk then extensively reworked the platform with an extended beavertail, improved trigger system, custom sights, distinctive hand texturing and durable Cerakote finish. Period descriptions of the package document an improved sear lever and custom trigger, removal of the magazine disconnect, fixed Heinie sights with a 14K gold-bead front, hand-textured gripping surfaces and cocobolo stocks.
The provenance makes this example noteworthy. Jim Wilson personally wrote about the Nighthawk Custom Browning Hi Power in American Rifleman on February 27, 2017, praising essentially these same modifications and specifically noting his preference for Nighthawk's cocobolo stocks. He reported using his Nighthawk/Browning Hi Power with Black Hills, Federal and Winchester ammunition and recorded groups of approximately 1.5" to 2.5" with 124-grain defensive ammunition.

PROVENANCE & COLLECTOR NOTES
The accompanying "From the Collection of Jim Wilson" certificate is signed by Jim Wilson and records the make, model, caliber and serial number of this exact pistol.
Wilson's association with this particular model adds a nice layer of provenance. His career included nearly 30 years in law enforcement, culminating in service as Sheriff of Crockett County, Texas from 1989 through 1997. His firearms writing appeared in publications including Petersen's Handguns, Guns & Ammo, Shooting Times, Handloader, Gun Digest, American Rifleman, Shooting Illustrated and most recently, GunTales.net.
Even more significantly for this firearm, Wilson devoted an entire 2017 American Rifleman article to it. He specifically praised its trigger work, extended beavertail, Heinie sights with gold-bead front, hand texturing, Cerakote finish and cocobolo stocks. It is still available online to read, and the photo provided proves the serial numbers are the same.
That connection makes this piece much more compelling than a typical Nighthawk Hi Power.
