Rare Smith & Wesson .32-20 Hand Ejector Model of 1905 – 4th Change

Factory-Chambered in .38 Long Colt – 3¼″ Barrel – Color Case Hammer & Trigger

This is a rare factory-chambered Smith & Wesson .32-20 Hand Ejector (Model of 1905 – 4th Change), chambered in .38 Long Colt. Built on the K-frame with five screws and a 3¼″ pinned barrel, this revolver features a round butt, fixed service sights, and a color case-hardened hammer and smooth trigger. Its grips are the original checkered black hard rubber “black diamond” style with S&W medallions.

This model represents the fourth and final engineering revision to the original 1905 design. Serial number 495094 places its production in the 1927–1928 range. Most examples were chambered in .32-20 or .38 Special, but this one is part of a rare factory run in .38 Long Colt, believed to have been manufactured under contract—possibly for the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, or foreign military.

The revolver remains in good condition for its age, with honest wear, patina, and scattered light pitting, but retains solid mechanical function. Photos may exaggerate wear—this revolver presents better in hand. These revolvers were discontinued prior to World War II and have not returned to production, making this an increasingly scarce opportunity for collectors.
