Remington Model 10-A Pump Action 12 Gauge Shotgun
Remington Model 10-A Pump Action 12 Gauge Shotgun
This is a fine example of the classic Remington Model 10-A, a historically significant pump-action shotgun designed by legendary firearms engineer John Pedersen and produced by Remington Arms between 1908 and 1929. This particular piece, serial number U118556, features a 30" barrel and a 5-round tubular magazine. At some point in its life, it received a period-correct, high-polish professional rebluing, which beautifully highlights its classic lines and craftsmanship.
Overall, this shotgun is in excellent condition for its age. It does show some expected handling marks, primarily on the stock. A small, neatly executed buttstock repair is present, visible by three small tack nail holes near the top of the butt.
Historical Significance
The Remington Model 10 was Remington’s first pump-action shotgun, representing a milestone in American firearm innovation. The Model 10-A, like the one offered here, was the standard sporting and police model, while trench variants saw service with U.S. forces during World War I.
This model was particularly notable for its bottom-ejecting mechanism, a feature ahead of its time that minimized exposure to dirt and weather and made the gun more ambidextrous-friendly.
Based on Remington’s serial number records and the stamp “REMINGTON UMC” (indicating production post-1912), serial number U118556 suggests mid-1910s production, likely between 1913 and 1918.
Condition
This Model 10-A remains in good vintage condition, with honest wear and a handsome reblued finish. The action is smooth and tight, and all mechanical functions operate correctly.
