Set of Two USFA Buntline .45 Colts from the John Taffin Collection
PAIR OF USFA 10" .45 COLT BUNTLINE-STYLE REVOLVERS – CONSECUTIVE NUMBERS – FROM THE JOHN TAFFIN COLLECTION
Serial Numbers: 28895 & 28896
Package Offering – Consecutive Pair Featured in this American Handgunner Article
A rare offering for advanced single-action collectors: a matched pair of U.S. Firearms (USFA) Single Action Army–pattern revolvers, each fitted with a 10-inch Colt-marked barrel and finished with Turnbull’s signature color case hardening on the frame and hammer.
These two revolvers — serial numbers 28895 and 28896 — are the exact pair photographed and discussed in American Handgunner ’s article, “Fact or Fiction: Earp’s Buntline Special.”
They are shown with Taffin’s own accuracy test cards and identified in the piece as a pair of classy 10-inch .45 Colt USFA Buntline Specials with consecutive serial numbers that were never catalogued by USFA.
This is a package offering in order to preserve the historical and published pairing.

PROVENANCE: THE JOHN TAFFIN CONNECTION
John Taffin (1938–2024) was one of the most respected handgun writers of the last 50 years — a man whose influence shaped modern revolver culture.
Known for his work in American Handgunner
, GUNS Magazine
, Gun Digest
, and a series of foundational books on big-bore handguns, Taffin was the rare writer trusted equally by custom gunsmiths, manufacturers, historians, and serious collectors.
He combined experience, integrity, and scholarship in a way few ever have.
Firearms from his collection are notable not only for their quality but for their documented role in his writing, testing, and historical commentary.
Owning a revolver from the Taffin collection is owning a piece of American firearms literature and culture.
