Smith & Wesson Model 27-3 .357 Magnum 5" – 1984 FBI 50th Anniversary Commemorative
Smith & Wesson Model 27-3 .357 Magnum 5" – 1984 FBI 50th Anniversary Commemorative
1934–1984 FBI Commemorative | Limited Production of 4,000 | 5" Barrel | Blued N-Frame | Engraved FBI Seal | Presentation Case | Roy Jinks Historical Letter
OVERVIEW
Offered here is an outstanding Smith & Wesson Model 27-3 FBI 50th Anniversary Commemorative chambered in .357 Magnum, produced to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's authorization to carry firearms, 1934–1984.
This commemorative celebrates an important chapter in American law enforcement history and the longstanding association between the FBI and Smith & Wesson's legendary .357 Magnum revolvers.
At the request of the FBI Association, Smith & Wesson produced 4,000 commemorative Model 27 revolvers, each featuring a special FBI-prefixed serial number, a 5-inch barrel, polished blue finish, engraved FBI seal, and smooth Goncalo Alves walnut grips.
The 5-inch barrel is particularly significant, reflecting the barrel length historically associated with .357 Magnum revolvers purchased by the Bureau. The revolver also incorporates a Baughman Quick Draw front sight, a design developed by FBI Special Agent and firearms instructor Frank Baughman.
This example, serial number FBI0560, is accompanied by a Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation letter dated May 3, 2019, signed by historian Roy G. Jinks. Research documented in that letter confirms the revolver was shipped from the Smith & Wesson factory on June 20, 1985, to Maryland Police Supply Co. in Baltimore, Maryland.
The revolver is presented in its walnut-finish wooden display case with vibrant blue lining and a glass viewing lid. Accompanying Smith & Wesson commemorative literature provides historical background on the FBI's adoption of the .357 Magnum.
Combining distinctive factory commemorative features, documented provenance, and serial-number-specific factory research, this is an excellent centerpiece for a collection of Smith & Wesson revolvers or American law enforcement memorabilia.

CONDITION
This Smith & Wesson Model 27-3 FBI 50th Anniversary Commemorative presents in excellent collector condition, with a rich, glossy blued finish, clearly defined commemorative markings, and attractive smooth walnut grips.
The engraved FBI seal remains prominent on the frame, while the gold-colored barrel inscription provides a tasteful contrast against the dark blue finish. The revolver displays beautifully in its presentation case, with minimal visible handling evident.
The wooden presentation case features a blue-lined interior, glass display lid, and brass-colored hardware. Minor storage or handling marks may be present on the case and its exterior surfaces.
Of particular importance is the accompanying 2019 Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation letter, which confirms the revolver's serial number, original configuration, factory shipment date, and destination. The letter also documents the limited 4,000-revolver commemorative production.
Smith & Wesson commemorative literature is included as pictured.
Originally, only available to active or retired FBI agents. No individual FBI-agent ownership or service history is represented. The historical letter specifically notes that factory records do not identify the agent who received this commemorative revolver.
Overall, this is a beautifully presented and historically documented example of the 1984 FBI 50th Anniversary Smith & Wesson Model 27-3, with desirable factory features and substantial appeal to serious collectors.
Please review all photographs closely for the best representation of the revolver's condition, commemorative markings, presentation case, and accompanying documentation.
