Smith-Corona Model 03-A3 – .30-06 Springfield - WWII Era Rifle
Smith-Corona Model 03-A3 – .30-06 Springfield
Description:
This is a WWII-era Smith-Corona Model 1903A3 rifle
chambered in .30-06 Springfield. Serial number 3650811
dates to April 1943, placing it firmly within Smith-Corona’s wartime production run. The barrel is correctly marked “SC 3-43”, confirming a March 1943 barrel date
— a desirable, factory-correct match with the receiver’s production window.
The rifle features the standard 24" barrel, parkerized finish, and walnut stock. Original WWII inspection cartouches remain clear: the boxed “FJA”(Frank J. Atwood acceptance stamp), the Ordnance Department crossed cannons, the circled “P” proof behind the trigger guard, and a “JS” stock marking on the buttstock. Additionally, the underside of the barrel is proof-marked with a “P”, signifying it passed Ordnance proof/pressure testing.
It is fitted with a receiver-mounted aperture sight and comes with a leather sling. Overall condition is very good, showing honest handling marks but strong original character.

Collector’s / Shooter’s Note:
Smith-Corona produced only about 234,000 Model 1903A3 rifles, far fewer than Remington’s 700,000+. This makes SC rifles more sought after among collectors. With its matching March 1943 barrel and April 1943 receiver, plus original acceptance cartouches and proof marks, this example stands as a strong and authentic WWII rifle for the serious U.S. martial arms collector.
