places this revolver in the late-1949 to early-1950
shipping window for the post-war “short-action” .357 Magnum series (pre-Model 27). The pre-27 is the direct descendant of the 1935 Registered Magnum and retained that identity as the “.357 Magnum” until S&W adopted model numbers in 1957(thereafter the Model 27). The 3.5"
length—often dubbed the “ FBI barrel
”—is especially sought after for its balance and law-enforcement heritage.
