U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine 45-70 Rifle

This is a recently acquired neat piece of history. We believe it to be all original with correct cartouches and markings. It features a 22" barrel, post front sight, ladder rear sight, and a mostly brown patina. The 22-inch-barreled .45-70 Gov’t carbines command interest and value, due to their association with the U.S. Cavalry and the taming of the American West. Trapdoor carbines were also used in the Spanish-American War, and refurbished arms were issued to National Guard units as late as the 1920s. There were 60,912 carbines made from 1873 to 1893. Those with serial numbers below 43,700 are known as “Custer Guns,” as there is a possibility that they saw action at the Little Big Horn. This example has a serial number of 18,818. These rifles were also some of the first buffalo hunting rifles. We don't have a solid, first-hand account of this rifle's history, so it leaves room for the imagination and has us wishing guns could talk. The left side of the stock has been repaired near the tang. Overall, this is a sturdy gun. Please see specifications below and all pictures for special markings and overall accurate depiction.
