OVERVIEW

Offered here is a recently acquired Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 945 chambered in .45 ACP, serial number CFR0034, presented in exceptionally well-preserved condition with its Performance Center aluminum presentation case, three magazines, factory literature, safety card, registration paperwork, and accompanying accessories.

The Model 945 was one of the signature semi-automatic pistols produced during the classic era of the Smith & Wesson Performance Center. Built as a premium, hand-fitted .45 ACP pistol, the 945 combined several 1911-inspired operating and control features with Smith & Wesson’s own design architecture, including a single-action trigger, frame-mounted thumb safety, grip safety, linkless barrel system, and external extractor. Contemporary reference material identifies the 945 as one of the Performance Center’s most highly finished and carefully fitted semi-automatic pistols.

This particular pistol appears to correspond with Performance Center product code 170152, the 4-inch black-finished Model 945. Collector documentation and reported factory verification identify this configuration as a Camfour-distributed variation produced around 2000.

Serial number CFR0034(2-digit) places this pistol very early within the known CFR-prefix sequence. Collector records document CFR-prefix examples through approximately CFR0330, making this a fairly rare and early Performance Center variation.

The original Model 945 used an 8-round magazine, and period references note that early magazines were closely related to the Model 4506 magazine but used a different magazine-catch location specific to the 945. Factory-marked Model 945 magazines have become increasingly difficult to replace, making the presence of three correct magazines especially worthwhile with a collector-grade example.

CONDITION

This pistol came from a well-established Smith & Wesson collection and appears to be in new-in-box or exceptionally close to new-in-box condition.

The blackened finish, polished stainless accents, grips, controls, and slide surfaces present exceptionally well with little evidence of handling. The magazines and included paperwork also appear very well preserved.

The aluminum Performance Center case remains with the pistol and presents well overall.

The Model 945 represents an important period in Smith & Wesson Performance Center history, when the shop produced a number of limited-distribution and hand-fitted semi-automatic pistols alongside its better-known revolver work.

The 4-inch black 170152 configuration is considerably less common than the standard 5-inch stainless 945, and the early CFR-prefix serial number, three correct magazines, aluminum Performance Center case, and extensive original paperwork make this an unusually complete example.
